HORNBILLS

Did you know...? hornbills have eyelashes to shield their eyes from debris? Next time you see one, look closely! Hornbills can live up to 30 years of age, are black and white in colour with some yellow and on their casques.

They are classified between ‘lower risk’ and ‘near-threatened’ by the IUCN. The Great Hornbills are listed in CITES, since the casque can be used as a carving material, similar to ivory

Sound boxes are located in the abdomens of male cicadas. A membrane known as a tymbal that they stretch to produce sound. To attract female, they make sounds.
